Seriously? Actually, yes; there IS a right way to take out the trash, but more specifically, to position your rollout garbage cart and recycle bin.
First thing’s first. Take steps to reduce the amount of trash that goes into your rollout cart. Re-use, recycle and compost as much as possible. Citizens may obtain recycle bins free of charge by calling 704-920-5555. Up to two extra brown roll out carts will be administered per household for an extra fee per extra cart per month.
All garbage that does enter the rollout cart, however, must be SOLID (no liquid waste) and contained in a tied, plastic bag. Garbage and recycling collections take place between 7am and 7pm on your regularly scheduled collection day. Residents may place garbage and recycling containers by the curb after 5pm the day before collection day, and should do so at least by 7am on collection day. Recycle bins and rollout carts should be removed from the curb by 9pm on collection day.
Please place garbage carts facing the street (with hinges facing AWAY from the street). Make sure carts and bins do not block mailboxes, driveways or sidewalks, and that they are not left in the street. Further, be sure to place recycle bins, yard waste, and garbage carts at least 3ft apart from each other and at least 6ft from obstructions such as utility poles and parked cars. Your garbage collector will return your rollout cart and recycle bin to the place you left it for collection unless they feel that it will create a hazard to the traveling public. So, where’s the best place to put your cart and bin? Here’s where the City of Concord recommends:
